QUATI: a beamline for operando studies

QUATI is a quick XAS (Q-XAS) beamline of the LNLS/CNPEM* especially suited for studying dynamicchanges in chemical speciation in situ. A number of measurements including XAS (XANES orEXAFS), X-ray emission spectroscopy (XES), XRD, and Raman spectroscopy can be acquiredfrom close the same sample area, often simultaneously. The X-ray energy range of QUATI is 3.5 - 35keV, which covers K-edges of elements between potassium and iodine on the periodictable, as well as L and M edges of other elements. Samples can be heated, exposed to variousgaseous under pressure up to 100 bars or in aqueous reactants, or subjected to an electrical potential to study chemical changes induced by controlled treatments. As an example of the unique capabilities of this beamline, a single XAS spectrum can be collected in as short as 50-500 ms, depending on the energy range,by rapidly rotating the monochromator while collecting fluorescence or transmission signals withhighly sensitive detectors. Continuous, rapid energy scanning of a sample under an imposed treatment produces a series of XAS spectra, with spectral changes across scans corresponding to changes in chemical speciation. The main idea of this talk is to give an overview of the experimental possibilities of this beamline for catalysis studies.

Sobre o palestrante

Graduado em Física (B.S.) da Universidade Nacional de La Plata-Argentina (2003), doutorado em Física pela mesma Universidade (2009). Projetos de pesquisa na área de nanociências e catálise heterogênea. Pós-doutorado no European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) até final de 2011, participando em projetos científicos em colaboração com diferentes grupos e na instalação de infra-estrutura para realização de experimentos in situ em linhas de luz de absorção de raios-X e difração. Desde o início de 2012 integra a equipe do Laboratório Nacional de Luz Síncrotron (LNLS), fazendo sua pesquisa e colaborações com diferentes grupos e coordenando o projeto da linha QUATI no Sirius. Principais áreas de interesse: espectroscopia de raios-X, armazenamento de hidrogênio, catálise e instrumentação científica.
